50 Years of Sacramento Car Care: The Quality Tune-Up Story Since 1976
Quality Tune-Up Shops has fixed Sacramento-area cars since 1976. Meet our six shops, see which do smog checks, our hours, fleet service and coupons.

How long has Quality Tune-Up been in business?
Short answer: Quality Tune-Up Shops has been fixing cars around Sacramento since 1976, which makes 2026 our 50th year. Today we run six shops: Arden Way, Florin Road, Fruitridge Road and Northgate Blvd in Sacramento, plus Douglas Blvd in Roseville and Folsom Blvd in Rancho Cordova. No appointment is ever needed.
The year is printed right on our signs: "Complete Auto Care Since 1976." Our homepage puts it another way, with 50+ years in business and more than 500,000 services completed. That's a lot of oil changes, brake jobs and smog checks for Sacramento and Placer County drivers.

Cars sure have changed in that time. Back then a tune-up meant new points, setting the timing and adjusting the carburetor. Today an engine computer handles most of that, and a tune-up is mostly about spark plugs, filters and reading the computer's trouble codes. We wrote up the difference in what a tune-up means on a modern car.
What hasn't changed is the basic idea. You pull in, a service writer listens to what the car is doing, and a trained mechanic checks it over. Then we tell you what it needs and what can wait.

Which Quality Tune-Up shops do smog checks?
Five of our six shops do smog checks: Arden, Florin, Fruitridge, Northgate and Roseville. Rancho Cordova does not, so drivers out that way should head to Arden or Roseville. If your car fails, the shop can usually make the adjustments or repairs on the spot. Read more on our smog check page.
Here's a fun coincidence. 1976 is also the cutoff year for California smog checks. The Bureau of Automotive Repair says gas, hybrid and alternative-fuel vehicles from model year 1976 and newer need one. Diesels need one from model year 1998 and newer.

So a car built the year we opened still needs a smog check every other year. Cars from the eight newest model years skip it at registration renewal. Not sure if yours is due? Our guide on whether you need a smog check in Sacramento walks through it.
Is Quality Tune-Up RepairPal certified?
Several of our shops are. As of Nov 5, 2026, RepairPal's Sacramento directory lists our Northgate and Fruitridge shops as RepairPal Certified, and its Roseville directory lists our Douglas Blvd shop too.
Beyond that, many of our mechanics hold ASE certifications. Our smog techs hold State of California smog check licenses.
What should you expect when you stop in?
No appointment, for one. Just pull in during business hours. Most routine work, like an oil change or a brake inspection, gets done while you wait. There's no need to leave your car for the day unless you want to.
While your car is in the bay, our mechanics check it for safety. If it needs any other service, they'll let you know.

Those online specials are real. Every shop has its own coupons page. Check the dates before you come in.
Does Quality Tune-Up offer fleet service?
Yes. Businesses with work trucks, vans or company cars can join our Fleet Service Program. Fleet customers get pick-up and delivery, priority scheduling and a computerized service history for each vehicle. You also get an assigned home shop and service team, plus account billing on approved credit. Fill out the form on our fleet services page and a fleet representative will contact you.
We're also hiring. If you're a service technician, service writer or licensed smog tech, see our careers page.
